Carolyne Mas: News

Valley Naturals - January 12, 2019

As I get ready to graduate with a BS in Integrative Health on May 6th of 2019, I am slowly setting up a business that I have wanted to set up for a long time. I have named it Valley Naturals. For now, the page is under construction, but I look forward to adding content soon. The goal of this website is to educate and raise awareness concerning preventive healthcare and overall well-being.

Happy Holidays! - December 3, 2018

It's that time of year again. The year has sped by, and I am now 5 months from graduating from Arizona State University with a BS in Integrative Health. I am ready for some big changes happening next year, so it is with great hope that I approach the new year. However, until I graduate and am able to find employment, I am still in need of assistance with the property tax lien on my property. The lien-holder has agreed to terms that are for the most part doable, but only if I can continue to find help at least until I graduate and am able to find a job. If you want to help you can do so safely by donating via PayPal, which can be done even if you don't have an account with them. You can either use the direct link above or use my email address to donate, which is

I have just completed three more classes, that's three more A's, and I am on track to graduate May 6th, 2019, summa cum laude. This is a copy of my degree audit from ASU, so you can see my GPA (which is 3.95) as well as all of the coursework I have completed so far and what I have left to do. I have worked hard and I am extremely proud of myself, as is my family. I have done this for myself and for them in order to be a better Mom as well as a better provider.

I wish you all the best of everything this holiday season. God bless you all!!! Remember to never forget your dreams...

DropBox File Sharing Access! - February 27, 2018

I had an idea while sharing some files with friends, to offer access to fans so they can burn their own CDs/DVDs from my files, or just download them to their mobile devices. I will charge $30 for full access, and this will not change no matter how many files are added in the future.

Currently among these files is a 1979 video of the Bathurst Theater in Toronto, a Chorus TV show from Paris from 1979, the Ovation TV show recorded by Paramount for HBO in 1980 but never released, my promotional videos for Carolyne Mas which were recorded from the VHS tape that my manager had from the record company, as well as all my studio recordings ( US and Germany) and several live recordings which I am still adding, like RockPalast, More Mas Hysteria, and a 1990 show from Karlsruhe, Germany. I am in the process of adding even more, and fans are welcome to contribute their photos or recordings as well

This is a great idea that lets you save money over CD Baby prices, as well as make custom compilations easily and share files with other fans.

Finishing my Junior Year at ASU - February 10, 2018

I know I have not updated this page in a while, but I have been uber-busy with school. Last semester I had Microbiology and Pathophysiology, both tough courses. I did manage to finish the semester with a 4.07 GPA, of which I am extremely proud. This has been an interesting journey for me, and I am excited about graduating in 2019.

Oh...I also became a member of the local school board this year. Wild, huh?

Thank you all for visiting this page and remembering my music. It seems like lifetimes ago for me that I was on up a stage, singing and playing music. Life is strange, and our time on this little blue rock hurling through space is indeed brief. I appreciate every second of it, and hope you do too.

A brief stop at a scenic overlook inside Kruger National Park in South Africa

I have been back from Africa for a little over a week now, and I hit the ground running as my son graduates from middle school today and it has been a busy week. Thank you to all who helped me get to South Africa. Pictures will follow of all the hospitals I visited as well as my time visiting the University of Witwatersrand in Joburg where I learned to suture a banana, among other things, and the increadible visit to a Muthi market in Durban, as well as a visit to a Zulu community in 1000 Hills.

This was a life-changing trip, and my only regret is that I was unable to bring my son, as traveling is always an educational experience.

ALMOST THERE! - March 29, 2017

I have finally paid off my tuition to attend the scholar laureate program in South Africa this May. I am still in need of funds towards the flights there and back, as well as for some expenses while I am there.

Donations can be made through PayPal (my PayPal address is, but I am also accepting donations through GoFundMe, although they charge fees on my end. Ticket prices are currently all over the map, anywhere from $1500 to $2700 round trip, and could get more expensive the closer I get to departure day, which will be May 14th. As a result, I am trying to do this as quickly as I can.

Here is the GoFundMe link to donate, and although people who already have a PayPal account can send money to me directly, I am including the donate button below for those of you who don't.

VERY CLOSE TO MY GOAL! - March 15, 2017

As of today, I am $625 shy of paying for the International Scholar Laureate Program in Nursing and Health that will take place in South Africa in May, $3000 of which was paid by a scholarship for the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. I am still in need of funds towards the flights there and back.

My donations have been mostly private through PayPal, but I have had a few generous donors through GoFundMe, as well. The cut-off time to pay for tuition is April 3rd, and the sooner I secure my flights, the better, as the prices are currently all over the map and could get more expensive closer to departure day, which will be May 14th.

Here is the GoFundMe link to donate.

The National Society of Collegiate Scholars - February 20, 2017

Very proud to have accepted this invitation today. It is somehow bittersweet, though, as my brother passed away a little over a week ago, and I am just coming off of a week of mourning. I am grateful to my family and friends for helping me make it through the week, as I also had to attend classes. It was one of the roughest weeks of my life.

International Scholar Laureate Program - February 7, 2017

I have just been awarded a scholarship from Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, to attend the International Scholar Laureate Program for Nursing and Healthcare in Johannesburg, South Africa, this coming May. I chose South Africa over Australia, because I am very interested in visiting a Zulu community and learning about the rituals of Sangomas, who are the traditional healers of the community.

This $3000 Scholarship covers most of the tuition, but does not cover the flights or the cultural extension, which I would very much like to participate in. You can see a breakdown of the tuition costs by visiting the International Scholar Laureate website, and following the links provided there. A breakdown of the costs of the program and exactly what the scholarship covered, is in the email that I received from them; you can read it by clicking here.

For this reason, I have started a GoFundMe campaign. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me, and I am very honored to have received it.

GUESTBOOK IS OFF :-( - January 7, 2017

I am so sorry to have to close my guestbook after all these years. :-( I receive so much spam that is it almost impossible to keep up with. However, those who wish to write to me, or send entries that I can add manually, can email me at, and I will get back to you personally. :-)

I MADE THE DEAN'S LIST! - January 6, 2017

I am very proud to have received this today, just a couple of days before starting the Spring semester at school.

LYRIC ILLUSTRATIONS - December 10, 2016

A friend of mine recently suggested that I sell hand-written lyrics on fine linen paper as Holiday gifts...and as I made my first few, they evolved into something that I wished to now do permanently.

I discovered that writing the lyrics by hand was not the wisest choice, as I kept running out of space, and they were uneven, running either uphill or down. Short of inventing a font that is exactly like my handwriting, I searched the internet and began downloading fonts that I felt were artistically compatible with the themes expressed in each song. I then chose to draw over the printed lyrics to make them more interesting, and then I added artwork with conté crayons. A coll new idea was born...which I will call lyric illustrations. Each is unique. These of some examples of my recent work that just shipped out.

The cost per order is $60, and I will ship each unique piece via Priority Mail for US, and first class mail for Canada and all points overseas. When you order through PayPal, just specify which song you would like, or if you prefer contacting me directly, just email me at

MORE MAS MUSIC! - September 7, 2016

All music is now available for download at CD Baby.

In addition to digital music, autographed copes of Brand New World on CD are available exclusively from me...

Some of you have requested that I make a donation link visible, so here it is. Donations are always welcome to help me through school, and they are crucial in helping to keep this website alive and kicking. I thank you...

THE RETURN OF A CLASSIC - August 15, 2016

I have a few copies of "Brand New World" available for sale, for those who do not like digital downloads. This CD is the third in a trilogy of CDs produced by the late, great Steve Burgh, who produced Steve Forbert's critically acclaimed debut album, "Alive on Arrival." In fact, one of Forbert's songs appears of this CD, given new life with Spanish lyrics written by my late mother, Livia. The original song was titled "Listen to Me," and in Spanish, it became "Escuchame."
Steve Burgh Also produced my debut album "Carolyne Mas," as well as my second album "Hold On." This album was recorded in late 1998 to early 1999 - twenty years from the time when we first met at Kenny's Castaways in New York, and nineteen years after recording together for the first time.
Special guests of this album include Charlie Giordano (now with Springsteen, but who toured and recorded with me back in the "old days"), Charlton Pettus (now with Tears for Fears, but who produced my album "Reason Street," 1993), Daniel Rey (The Ramones), and Sue Hadjopoulos (percussion, Joe Jackson), as well as many other fine musicians.
I am especially proud of my cover of the Dictator's song, "Stay with Me," which I had wanted to record for years.

I'M OFF TO ASU!!! - June 26, 2016

I have been accepted to ASU (Arizona State University) to complete my BS in Integrative Health. My family is very excited, and I wanted to share the great news with you.

I hope that you are having a glorious summer!

My Induction into Phi Theta Kappa - April 23, 2016

On April 23rd, I was officially inducted into Phi Theta Pappa International Honor Society and it's local chapter, Alpha Mu Zeta, at the Sierra Vista campus of Cochise College.

Carolyne Joins Phi Theta Kappa Internationl Honor Society - February 19, 2016

ptk key

I am so very proud to announce my invitation to become a member of the prestigious Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, as well as the Alpha Mu Zeta Chapter of Arizona. I wish my parents were alive to see this. That's my mother's thumbprint below my Phi Theta Kappa Key. I wear both proudly.

This version of "New York City Serenade" was recorded at Fabrik in Hamburg, Germany, on February 10, 2013, while Carolyne was on a solo tour of both Italy and Germany. Carolyne recorded it using her iPhone atop the 9-foot grand piano as she played. It has made its debut on CD Baby, and will also be available from places like iTunes and Amazon in the very near future.

I did it. I received my grades yesterday after recently completing my final exams, and I finished the semester with a 4.0 average. I could not be happier. Just in time for Christmas!!!

I am not not only on the Dean's list, but on the President's list because of my 4.0 average, which is the highest academic honor that a student can achieve, according to the letter of congratulations that I received from my college.

This electrifying live concert from Carolyne Mas has become a classic throughout much of Europe. It was recorded August 3,1980 at My Father's Place in Roslyn, New York, and it features Vince Barranco (drums), Ivan Elias (bass), Crispin Cioe (sax), Ricky DeSarno (guitar), and Charlie Giordano (keys), who is now a member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band. This is the entire 75 minute, 12 song concert which was broadcast on WLIR-FM as part of the King Biscuit Flower Hour series. Excepts from this concert were released in 1981 as the album "Mas Hysteria." This album features the uncut version of the hit song "Sittin' in the Dark."

Available from CD Baby...

I started a Go Fund Me to try and save my home, but it has not been very successful. HomeFront Rising also has a fundraising link with a description of their mission involving my property, which I think at this point has become the most important link. This project is not just about me. Organizers, friends of vets...I welcome you to get involved.

CAROLYNE MAS • Site Director, Operation Mas

FROM HOMEFRONT RISING: Renowned for her exciting live shows, Carolyne burst onto the Greenwich Village music scene in the late 1970s. She made critically-acclaimed albums for Mercury Records, and performed throughout the United States, Canada and Europe, where she eventually settled and experienced her greatest success throughout the 1990s. She retired from the music industry in 2002 to raise her son and care for her family, but she still occasionally performs in Germany and Italy, where she recorded an album in 2013. Carolyne is currently pursuing a degree in Integrative Health, and is overseeing our emerging veterans community in Pearce, AZ. Operation Mas serves as an incubator for projects involving sustainable agriculture, culinary arts, economic security and innovative housing.

I am now officially a college student at Cochise College, and spent most of the day yesterday on the beautiful campus of my new school. Although I will be attending classes online, the campus is available to me should I need to use the library, book store, gym, or any of the other fantastic things that they have to offer.

I will eventually be transferring to ASU to complete my degree in Integrative Health. I am very excited about this new journey.

There are limited copies of "The Vinyl Collection", the ultimate classic collection of songs which was remastered by the late great Joe Phillips back in 2012 on his WildCat label. This double CD set contains all of the tracks from all 3 Mercury releases from 1979 to 1981, "Carolyne Mas", "Hold On", and "Modern Dreams". The CDs have been printed to look like little vinyl LPs, so they are rather unique.

I will be autographing each of these unique copies, and the price is $50 a piece, which includes priority shipping for the US only. International buyers please add shipping. These are the last copies that will ever be printed. When they are gone...they are GONE forever.

This item is no longer available.

Joe Phillips devoted his entire life to music. When he wasn't playing or recording himself, he was busy helping others to have their music heard.

A skillful musician, singer/songwriter, engineer and producer, he founded WildCat Recording USA in 1993, where he released CDs by many of his pals including Tom Rapp, Scott Severin, Forrest Harlow...and myself. In 2011, he released a Christmas compilation featuring tracks from multiple artists, including a version of "Silent Night" performed by the late great Bill Chinnock, which was so kindly donated by the Chinnock family, and my song "Snow."

Joe died on April 20th from complications caused by chemo while being treated for stage IV lung cancer. He was a lively presence on Facebook, which is where we met, and he will be missed by many.
