As of today, I am $625 shy of paying for the International Scholar Laureate Program in Nursing and Health that will take place in South Africa in May, $3000 of which was paid by a scholarship for the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. I am still in need of funds towards the flights there and back.
My donations have been mostly private through PayPal, but I have had a few generous donors through GoFundMe, as well. The cut-off time to pay for tuition is April 3rd, and the sooner I secure my flights, the better, as the prices are currently all over the map and could get more expensive closer to departure day, which will be May 14th.
Here is the GoFundMe link to donate and the PayPal one can be found here:
The National Society of Collegiate Scholars - February 20, 2017
Very proud to have accepted this invitation today. It is somehow bittersweet, though, as my brother passed away a little over a week ago, and I am just coming off of a week of mourning. I am grateful to my family and friends for helping me make it through the week, as I also had to attend classes. It was one of the roughest weeks of my life.
International Scholar Laureate Program - February 7, 2017
I have just been awarded a scholarship from Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, to attend the International Scholar Laureate Program for Nursing and Healthcare in Johannesburg, South Africa, this coming May. I chose South Africa over Australia, because I am very interested in visiting a Zulu community and learning about the rituals of Sangomas, who are the traditional healers of the community.
This $3000 Scholarship covers most of the tuition, but does not cover the flights or the cultural extension, which I would very much like to participate in. You can see a breakdown of the tuition costs by visiting the International Scholar Laureate website, and following the links provided there. A breakdown of the costs of the program and exactly what the scholarship covered, is in the email that I received from them; you can read it by clicking here.
For this reason, I have started a GoFundMe campaign. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me, and I am very honored to have received it.
GUESTBOOK IS OFF :-( - January 7, 2017
I am so sorry to have to close my guestbook after all these years. :-( I receive so much spam that is it almost impossible to keep up with. However, those who wish to write to me, or send entries that I can add manually, can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org, and I will get back to you personally. :-)
I MADE THE DEAN'S LIST! - January 6, 2017
I am very proud to have received this today, just a couple of days before starting the Spring semester at school.
LYRIC ILLUSTRATIONS - December 10, 2016
A friend of mine recently suggested that I sell hand-written lyrics on fine linen paper as Holiday gifts...and as I made my first few, they evolved into something that I wished to now do permanently.
I discovered that writing the lyrics by hand was not the wisest choice, as I kept running out of space, and they were uneven, running either uphill or down. Short of inventing a font that is exactly like my handwriting, I searched the internet and began downloading fonts that I felt were artistically compatible with the themes expressed in each song. I then chose to draw over the printed lyrics to make them more interesting, and then I added artwork with conté crayons. A coll new idea was born...which I will call lyric illustrations. Each is unique. These of some examples of my recent work that just shipped out.
The cost per order is $60, and I will ship each unique piece via Priority Mail for US, and first class mail for Canada and all points overseas. When you order through PayPal, just specify which song you would like, or if you prefer contacting me directly, just email me at email@example.com.

NEW YORK CITY SERENADE ON CD BABY - January 5, 2016
This version of "New York City Serenade" was recorded at Fabrik in Hamburg, Germany, on February 10, 2013, while Carolyne was on a solo tour of both Italy and Germany. Carolyne recorded it using her iPhone atop the 9-foot grand piano as she played. It has made its debut on CD Baby, and will also be available from places like iTunes and Amazon in the very near future.
CAROLYNE ACHIEVES HIGHEST ACADEMIC HONORS - December 15, 2015
I did it. I received my grades yesterday after recently completing my final exams, and I finished the semester with a 4.0 average. I could not be happier. Just in time for Christmas!!!
I am not not only on the Dean's list, but on the President's list because of my 4.0 average, which is the highest academic honor that a student can achieve, according to the letter of congratulations that I received from my college.
UNCUT LIVE FROM MY FATHER'S PLACE AUGUST 3, 1980 - December 4, 2015
This electrifying live concert from Carolyne Mas has become a classic throughout much of Europe. It was recorded August 3,1980 at My Father's Place in Roslyn, New York, and it features Vince Barranco (drums), Ivan Elias (bass), Crispin Cioe (sax), Ricky DeSarno (guitar), and Charlie Giordano (keys), who is now a member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band. This is the entire 75 minute, 12 song concert which was broadcast on WLIR-FM as part of the King Biscuit Flower Hour series. Excepts from this concert were released in 1981 as the album "Mas Hysteria." This album features the uncut version of the hit song "Sittin' in the Dark."
THE CAMPAIGN TO CREATE A SOLUTION - September 30, 2015
I started a Go Fund Me to try and save my home, but it has not been very successful. HomeFront Rising also has a fundraising link with a description of their mission involving my property, which I think at this point has become the most important link. This project is not just about me. Organizers, friends of vets...I welcome you to get involved.
FROM HOMEFRONT RISING: Renowned for her exciting live shows, Carolyne burst onto the Greenwich Village music scene in the late 1970s. She made critically-acclaimed albums for Mercury Records, and performed throughout the United States, Canada and Europe, where she eventually settled and experienced her greatest success throughout the 1990s. She retired from the music industry in 2002 to raise her son and care for her family, but she still occasionally performs in Germany and Italy, where she recorded an album in 2013. Carolyne is currently pursuing a degree in Integrative Health, and is overseeing our emerging veterans community in Pearce, AZ. Operation Mas serves as an incubator for projects involving sustainable agriculture, culinary arts, economic security and innovative housing.
I AM OFFICIALLY IN COLLEGE - June 17, 2015
I am now officially a college student at Cochise College, and spent most of the day yesterday on the beautiful campus of my new school. Although I will be attending classes online, the campus is available to me should I need to use the library, book store, gym, or any of the other fantastic things that they have to offer.
I will eventually be transferring to ASU to complete my degree in Integrative Health. I am very excited about this new journey.
Some of you have requested that I make a donation link visible, so here it is. Donations are always welcome, and they are crucial in helping to keep this website alive and kicking. They also help keep me alive and kicking while I am in school. I thank you...

This double CD set contains all of the tracks from all 3 Mercury releases from 1979 to 1981, "Carolyne Mas", "Hold On", and "Modern Dreams". The CDs have been printed to look like little vinyl LPs, so they are rather unique.

RIP JOE PHILLIPS OF WILDCAT RECORDING USA - April 20, 2015
Joe Phillips devoted his entire life to music. When he wasn't playing or recording himself, he was busy helping others to have their music heard.
A skillful musician, singer/songwriter, engineer and producer, he founded WildCat Recording USA in 1993, where he released CDs by many of his pals including Tom Rapp, Scott Severin, Forrest Harlow...and myself. In 2011, he released a Christmas compilation featuring tracks from multiple artists, including a version of "Silent Night" performed by the late great Bill Chinnock, which was so kindly donated by the Chinnock family, and my song "Snow."
Joe died on April 20th from complications caused by chemo while being treated for stage IV lung cancer. He was a lively presence on Facebook, which is where we met, and he will be missed by many.

NEW CD "SOMEBODY LIKE ME" NOW AVAILABLE! - November 8, 2014
It is with great pride and pleasure that I announce the digital release of a new CD entitled "Somebody Like Me".
While living in Germany from 1989 through 1993, I produced a great body of work which remains unknown to many of my fans in the US and other places in the world. The goal of this new CD is to fill in that gap of time and make available all of the music that deserves to be heard.
I once attempted to release this as "The European Collection", but the costs were too high for me to make thumb drives or CDs...so I decided to let CD Baby do all the work for me this time. They can reach more people than I can, by submitting my music to their digital partners like iTunes, Spotify, Rhapsody, XBox Music, and Amazon.
"Somebody Like Me" consists of 43 studio and live tracks, and is available from CD Baby for $29.99, and from iTunes for $39.99. I am not sure what the price will be on other sites, but I set the price on CD Baby to be very competitive without giving the album away.
I will also be selling autographed download cards when I get them from CD Baby in a couple of days, which should look great as the cover is especially nice-looking. They will make a great holiday gift tucked inside of a greeting card or even inside a Christmas stocking.
Thank You, Dear Fans...Much Love to You All. xoxoxo
LOU WHITNEY, EXTRAORDINARY MAN, DIES AT 71 - October 7, 2014
Recording "Action Pact" was undoubtedly one of the best times I ever had making a record. Of all the albums I have ever recorded it is my favorite, and always manages to sound fresh year after year. It was an honor to have worked with Lou Whitney, whom I met while on a brief tour of the south with Steve Forbert during the spring of 1980. We hooked up again in 1982, and again in the fall of 1988, when I decided to record In Springfield, MO with him. It was a learning experience, and Lou was one of the most respectful people I ever worked with, which as a woman in a man's milieu, was not always the case. My memories of that time are very precious to me. I moved to Springfield because of Lou, and because of the wonderful people I met through him. Some of the best times I ever had playing were with him and drummer Ron Gremp, as a trio. We played regularly at 2 places: Dan's Lounge, and Carl's Lounge. It was a blast each time. Lou died on October 7th at 9:30 AM in his Springfield home, where he had been battling cancer for more than a year. His absence will be felt by many. He was a gentleman, a philosopher, a father figure to many...as well as a very talented (yet modest) musician and producer. My deepest condolences go out to his wife Kay, and to his family.
NOW ON CD BABY - July 8, 2014
I am very pleased to announce that my cover of the late great John Lennon's song "Imagine", recorded in 1991, is now on CD Baby and other digital partners....
GREAT GIFT IDEA - July 7, 2014
I have 99 of these download cards for "THE VINYL COLLECTION" from CD Baby. They are perfect to put inside a birthday or holiday card, or inside a Christmas stocking, and can be personally autographed by me to anyone you want. They are the size of a credit card, and are $12 a piece which includes standard shipping to anywhere.
LIVE IN GERMANY 1981 - July 2, 2014
I am happy to announce the CD Baby release of a live show from Germany, from 1981. All 19 tracks will be available at the CD Baby website and from their digital partners like iTunes in the next day or so. While I already sell both the complete download as well as the physical double CD of this show here, using this method allows people to buy individual tracks, and gets my music out there better than I can by myself.
This double-CD has 19 action-packed tracks which include many of her well-known songs like "Sittin' in the Dark", "Thomas Dunson's Revenge", and "Stillsane', as well as several songs that have never before been released: I'm Lucky", another great Mas/Landau collaboration, "Due Relief", an edgy original, "Bad Love", a Mark Johnson rocker, and the tour-de-force of my live shows at the time, "Midnight Confessions", the classic Grass Roots song.
It features Bobby Chouinard (drums), Ivan Elias (bass), Crispin Cioe (sax), Ricky DeSarno (guitar), and Charlie Giordano (keys).
Terry Shanahan had a great idea one day. We were talking on the phone while I was getting ready to leave for a tour of Italy in January of 2014, to promote my latest CD. I told him about how I had been photographing interesting bathrooms for 10 years during my travels, and he suggested that I put together a book of these photos and call it "Dear John". The concept evolved from simple photographs to painted photographs, as I had seen Terry's work as an artist, and some of this work included painted photographs which I thought were just great. We thought to paint scenes into each photo...and this in turn evolved into the idea to include a short poem with each painted photo; something that had to do with love and relationships. "Dear John..." was born. We began to go through the photos, which I had started taking in 2004 while onboard the MS Veendam for a cruise. There were quite a few from the Veendam, as well as from 2 other ships, along with photos from the many hotel rooms and clubs that I had either stayed in or performed at while on tour in Italy during 2006, 2013 and 2014. We picked out what we felt were the most interesting ones, and got to work. "Dear John..." is a work in progress, and the process is simple, but tedious. Terry has chosen to use a very primitive computer program on his Mac G4, which is very fitting as many of these photos were taken using a cell phone. The goal is to make something creative with the least amount of help. You can find the official "Dear John..." blog, along with a few pages from the book, by clicking here. ~ Carolyne
