I added liner notes and some thank-yous as well as dedications: Jim Kerr, the first album, Carolyne Mas, is dedicated to him for remembering my music and sharing some great memories in 1979; Hold On is dedicated to the late Stevie Cochran for being my best friend for so many years as well as an amazing talent; the third and last album, Modern Dreams, is dedicated to my son, Gabriel, for being my pride and joy...and my very own Modern Dream.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">This is the 2–hour Carolyne Mas special that aired on <a href="http://www.caseyradio.com.au" data-imported="1">Casey Radio</a>, Melbourne, Australia on Tuesday, July 23rd. There were some server issues at the time of the broadcast, which prevented listeners in certain parts of the world from hearing the first hour. John Broughton, whose show I was on, was kind enough to email me the show in two parts; I thought to post it here for all to listen. Enjoy!</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">I had an idea while sharing some files with friends, to offer access to fans so they can burn their own CDs/DVDs from my files, or just download them to their mobile devices. I will charge $30 for full access, and this will not change no matter how many files are added in the future.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Currently among these files is a 1979 video of the Bathurst Theater in Toronto, a Chorus TV show from Paris from 1979, the Ovation TV show recorded by Paramount for HBO in 1980 but never released, my promotional videos for Carolyne Mas which were recorded from the VHS tape that my manager had from the record company, as well as <em>all</em> my studio recordings ( US and Germany) and several live recordings like RockPalast, More Mas Hysteria, a 1990 show from Karlsruhe, Germany, a 1989 broadcast from Bremen, Germany, and a 1980 show from the Fast Lane in Asbury Park, New Jersey. I am always adding new files, and fans are welcome to contribute their photos or recordings as well</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">This is a great idea that lets you save money over CD Baby prices, as well as make custom compilations easily and share files with other fans.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">"I really loved the 1979-1980 PLJ. Not everybody was a big name, but everybody was good. <p style="text-align: justify;">Someone sent me an anonymous gift, a recording of a Carolyne Mas show from the Fast Lane in Asbury Park, New Jersey, in January of 1980. I think this may be the show I played where both Bruce Springsteen and Tony Bennett were in the audience, as I believe that Neon, a band comprised of his sons, opened for me that night. Neon and I were with the same booking agency, so we did a lot of shows together around that time and I got to know all of them pretty well.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">This is not the entire show, but there are quite a few tracks and the quality is not bad. I tried a remix, but I am no expert. What I have done is to create a file in DropBox called "Carolyne Mas Fast Lane 1980" with both the mixed and unmixed versions, which are each in two parts. Those who subscribe to <a href="/files/590648/products.html" data-imported="1">DropBox access</a> already, will get this show as soon as I tag you tomorrow. Those who are not subscribed yet, will have the opportunity to do so by visiting my website.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Part 1 of the show contains these songs: Never 2 Without 3, Snow, It's No Secret, All for You, and Sadie Says. Part 2 of the show contains these songs: Stillsane, Baby Please, Go Ahead and Cry Now, and Midnight Confessions. The band lineup is with David Landau (lead guitar), Crispin Cioe (sax), Ivan Elias (bass), Charlie Giordano (keys), and Bobby Chouinard (drums). This was before Hold On was recorded and may have been one of Charlie's first shows with me as he replaced Robbie Condor. My first ex-husband sings harmony on Sadie Says as he did on my first album, and this is one of the few times that he did so at a live show.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">I encourage fans to subscribe to my <a href="/files/590648/products.html" data-imported="1">DropBox access</a>, because I never know when special shows like this will be added. Enjoy the music!</p>

<p>“On a warm summer night—July of 1980—that fine tuned machine—with Carolyne Mas: lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Rick Desarno: lead guitar, Ivan Elias: bass, Crispin Cioe: sax, Charles Giordano: keys, and Vince Barranco on drums— revved its monster engine from the stage of the Fast Lane in Asbury Park, NJ until we were all drained and transported to a place of exuberant revelry . What a sound! What a show! What a night! Carolyne’s music and chops stood on their own. This little spitfire, sang her heart out and played rhythm guitar with guts, gusto and confidence like few men could, and with every song—she meant business! Singing, running, leaping, falling to her knees and belting out each song like it was her last—she drew us all into her world and shared her passions, her soul, her joy and herself." ~ Joe Streno</p>

<p>As I get ready to graduate with a BS in Integrative Health on May 6th of 2019, I am slowly setting up a business that I have wanted to set up for a long time. I have named it <a href="https://www.valleynaturals.org" data-imported="1">Valley Naturals</a>. For now, the page is under construction, but I look forward to adding content soon. The goal of this website is to educate and raise awareness concerning preventive healthcare and overall well-being.</p>

<p>It's that time of year again. The year has sped by, and I am now 5 months from graduating from Arizona State University with a BS in Integrative Health. I am ready for some big changes happening next year, so it is with great hope that I approach the new year. However, until I graduate and am able to find employment, I am still in need of assistance with the property tax lien on my property. The lien-holder has agreed to terms that are for the most part doable, but only if I can continue to find help at least until I graduate and am able to find a job. If you want to help you can do so safely by donating <a href="https://paypal.me/CarolyneMas" data-imported="1">via PayPal</a>, which can be done even if you don't have an account with them. You can either use the direct link above or use my email address to donate, which is samlorac@aol.com.</p>
<p>I have just completed three more classes, that's three more A's, and I am on track to graduate May 6th, 2019, summa cum laude. <a href="https://www.dropbox.com/s/xf5643n668zee25/Safari%20-%20Dec%205%2C%202018%20at%201103%20AM.pdf?dl=0" data-imported="1">This is a copy of my degree audit from ASU</a>, so you can see my GPA (which is 3.95) as well as all of the coursework I have completed so far and what I have left to do. I have worked hard and I am extremely proud of myself, as is my family. I have done this for myself and for them in order to be a better Mom as well as a better provider.</p>
<p>I wish you all the best of everything this holiday season. God bless you all!!! Remember to never forget your dreams...</p>

<p>I know I have not updated this page in a while, but I have been uber-busy with school. Last semester I had Microbiology and Pathophysiology, both tough courses. I did manage to finish the semester with a 4.07 GPA, of which I am extremely proud. This has been an interesting journey for me, and I am excited about graduating in 2019.</p>
<p>Oh...I also became a member of the local school board this year. Wild, huh?</p>
<p>Thank you all for visiting this page and remembering my music. It seems like lifetimes ago for me that I was on up a stage, singing and playing music. Life is strange, and our time on this little blue rock hurling through space is indeed brief. I appreciate every second of it, and hope you do too.</p>

<p style="text-align: center;">A brief stop at a scenic overlook inside Kruger National Park in South Africa</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">I have been back from Africa for a little over a week now, and I hit the ground running as my son graduates from middle school today and it has been a busy week. Thank you to all who helped me get to South Africa. Pictures will follow of all the hospitals I visited as well as my time visiting the University of Witwatersrand in Joburg where I learned to suture a banana, among other things, and the increadible visit to a Muthi market in Durban, as well as a visit to a Zulu community in 1000 Hills.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">This was a life-changing trip, and my only regret is that I was unable to bring my son, as traveling is always an educational experience.</p>

<p>I have finally paid off my tuition to attend the scholar laureate program in South Africa this May. I am still in need of funds towards the flights there and back, as well as for some expenses while I am there.</p>
<p>Donations can be made through PayPal (my PayPal address is samlorac@aol.com), but I am also accepting donations through GoFundMe, although they charge fees on my end. Ticket prices are currently all over the map, anywhere from $1500 to $2700 round trip, and could get more expensive the closer I get to departure day, which will be May 14th. As a result, I am trying to do this as quickly as I can.</p>
<p>Here is the <a href="https://www.gofundme.com/2mxwyes" data-imported="1"><strong>GoFundMe link</strong> </a>to donate, and although people who already have a PayPal account can send money to me directly, I am including the donate button below for those of you who don't.</p>

<p>As of today, I am $625 shy of paying for the International Scholar Laureate Program in Nursing and Health that will take place in South Africa in May, $3000 of which was paid by a scholarship for the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. I am still in need of funds towards the flights there and back.</p>
<p>My donations have been mostly private through PayPal, but I have had a few generous donors through GoFundMe, as well. The cut-off time to pay for tuition is April 3rd, and the sooner I secure my flights, the better, as the prices are currently all over the map and could get more expensive closer to departure day, which will be May 14th.</p>
<p>Here is the <a href="https://www.gofundme.com/2mxwyes" data-imported="1">GoFundMe link </a>to donate.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">Very proud to have accepted this invitation today. It is somehow bittersweet, though, as my brother passed away a little over a week ago, and I am just coming off of a week of mourning. I am grateful to my family and friends for helping me make it through the week, as I also had to attend classes. It was one of the roughest weeks of my life.</p>

<p>I have just been awarded a scholarship from Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, to attend the International Scholar Laureate Program for Nursing and Healthcare in Johannesburg, South Africa, this coming May. I chose South Africa over Australia, because I am very interested in visiting a Zulu community and learning about the rituals of Sangomas, who are the traditional healers of the community.</p>
<p>This $3000 Scholarship covers most of the tuition, but does not cover the flights or the cultural extension, which I would very much like to participate in. You can see a breakdown of the tuition costs by visiting the International Scholar Laureate website, and following the <a href="http://www.scholarlaureate.org/delegations/nursing/delegation-nursing-south-africa.html" target="_blank" data-imported="1">links</a> provided there. A breakdown of the costs of the program and exactly what the scholarship covered, is in the email that I received from them; you can read it by clicking <a href="/files/590700/img-4886-resized.png" data-imported="1">here</a>.</p>
<p>For this reason, I have started a <a href="https://www.gofundme.com/2mxwyes" data-imported="1">GoFundMe </a>campaign. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me, and I am very honored to have received it.</p>

<p>A friend of mine recently suggested that I sell hand-written lyrics on fine linen paper as Holiday gifts...and as I made my first few, they evolved into something that I wished to now do permanently. </p>
<p>I discovered that writing the lyrics by hand was not the wisest choice, as I kept running out of space, and they were uneven, running either uphill or down. Short of inventing a font that is exactly like my handwriting, I searched the internet and began downloading fonts that I felt were artistically compatible with the themes expressed in each song. I then chose to draw over the printed lyrics to make them more interesting, and then I added artwork with conté crayons. A coll new idea was born...which I will call lyric illustrations. Each is unique. These of some examples of my recent work that just shipped out.</p>
<p><img src="//d10j3mvrs1suex.cloudfront.net/u/425944/7fc5eebfd6283e3059452ced90863520c5625097/original/img-4014.jpg/!!/b%3AW10%3D.jpg" class="size_orig justify_inline border_" alt="Sheets" /></p>
<p> </p>
<p>The cost per order is $60, and I will ship each unique piece via Priority Mail for US, and first class mail for Canada and all points overseas. When you order through PayPal, just specify which song you would like, or if you prefer contacting me directly, just email me at samlorac@aol.com.</p>

<p>This <a href="http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/carolynemas7" data-imported="1">electrifying live concert</a> from Carolyne Mas has become a classic throughout much of Europe. It was recorded August 3,1980 at My Father's Place in Roslyn, New York, and it features Vince Barranco (drums), Ivan Elias (bass), Crispin Cioe (sax), Ricky DeSarno (guitar), and Charlie Giordano (keys), who is now a member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band. This is the entire 75 minute, 12 song concert which was broadcast on WLIR-FM as part of the King Biscuit Flower Hour series. Excepts from this concert were released in 1981 as the album "Mas Hysteria." This album features the <span style="text-decoration:underline"><strong>uncut</strong></span> version of the hit song "Sittin' in the Dark."</p>

<p>There are limited copies of "The Vinyl Collection", the ultimate classic collection of songs which was remastered by the late great Joe Phillips back in 2012 on his WildCat label. This double CD set contains all of the tracks from all 3 Mercury releases from 1979 to 1981, "Carolyne Mas", "Hold On", and "Modern Dreams". The CDs have been printed to look like little vinyl LPs, so they are rather unique.</p>
<p>I will be autographing each of these <strong>unique</strong> copies, and the price is $50 a piece, which includes priority shipping for the US only. <em>International buyers please add shipping.<strong> These are the last copies that will ever be printed. When they are gone...they are GONE forever.<br></strong></em></p>

<p>Joe Phillips devoted his entire life to music. When he wasn't playing or recording himself, he was busy helping others to have their music heard. <br><br>A skillful musician, singer/songwriter, engineer and producer, he founded WildCat Recording USA in 1993, where he released CDs by many of his pals including Tom Rapp, Scott Severin, Forrest Harlow...and myself. <p>It is with great pride and pleasure that I announce the digital release of a new CD entitled "<a href="http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/carolynemas5" data-imported="1">Somebody Like Me</a>".</p>
<p>While living in Germany from 1989 through 1993, I produced a great body of work which remains unknown to many of my fans in the US and other places in the world. The goal of this new CD is to fill in that gap of time and make available all of the music that deserves to be heard.</p>
<p>I once attempted to release this as "The European Collection", but the costs were too high for me to make thumb drives or CDs...so I decided to let <a href="http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/carolynemas5" data-imported="1">CD Baby</a> do all the work for me this time. They can reach more people than I can, by submitting my music to their digital partners like iTunes, Spotify, Rhapsody, XBox Music, and Amazon.</p>
<p>"<a href="http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/carolynemas5" data-imported="1">Somebody Like Me</a>" consists of 43 studio and live tracks, and is available from <a href="http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/carolynemas5" data-imported="1">CD Baby</a> for $29.99, and from i<a href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/somebody-like-me/id939014139" data-imported="1">Tunes</a> for $39.99. I am not sure what the price will be on other sites, but I set the price on CD Baby to be very competitive without giving the album away.</p>
<p>I will also be selling autographed download cards when I get them from <a href="http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/carolynemas5" data-imported="1">CD Baby</a> in a couple of days, which should look great as the cover is especially nice-looking. They will make a great holiday gift tucked inside of a greeting card or even inside a Christmas stocking.</p>
<p>Thank You, Dear Fans...Much Love to You All. xoxoxo</p>
Carolyne Mastag:carolynemas.com,2005:Post/60805792014-10-06T18:00:00-06:002019-12-18T14:28:15-07:00LOU WHITNEY, EXTRAORDINARY MAN, DIES AT 71
<p><img src="//d10j3mvrs1suex.cloudfront.net/u/425944/907f81b286383ded1d96b378233c6bc914ba0e21/original/lou.jpg/!!/b%3AW10%3D.jpg" class="size_orig justify_inline border_" alt="lou" /> Recording "Action Pact" was undoubtedly one of the best times I ever had making a record. Of all the albums I have ever recorded it is my favorite, and always manages to sound fresh year after year. It was an honor to have worked with Lou Whitney, whom I met while on a brief tour of the south with Steve Forbert during the spring of 1980. We hooked up again in 1982, and again in the fall of 1988, when I decided to record In Springfield, MO with him. It was a learning experience, and Lou was one of the most respectful people I ever worked with, which as a woman in a man's milieu, was not always the case. My memories of that time are very precious to me. I moved to Springfield because of Lou, and because of the wonderful people I met through him. Some of the best times I ever had playing were with him and drummer Ron Gremp, as a trio. We played regularly at 2 places: Dan's Lounge, and Carl's Lounge. It was a blast each time. Lou died on October 7th at 9:30 AM in his Springfield home, where he had been battling cancer for more than a year. His absence will be felt by many. He was a gentleman, a philosopher, a father figure to many...as well as a very talented (yet modest) musician and producer. My deepest condolences go out to his wife Kay, and to his family.</p>

<p>I am happy to announce the CD Baby release of a live show from Germany, from 1981. All 19 tracks will be available at the CD Baby website and from their digital partners like iTunes in the next day or so. While I already sell both the complete download as well as the physical double CD of this show <a href="/files/590648/products.html" data-imported="1">here</a>, using this method allows people to buy individual tracks, and gets my music out there better than I can by myself.
This double-CD has 19 action-packed tracks which include many of her well-known songs like "Sittin' in the Dark", "Thomas Dunson's Revenge", and "Stillsane', as well as several songs that have never before been released: I'm Lucky", another great Mas/Landau collaboration, "Due Relief", an edgy original, "Bad Love", a Mark Johnson rocker, and the tour-de-force of my live shows at the time, "Midnight Confessions", the classic Grass Roots song.
It features Bobby Chouinard (drums), Ivan Elias (bass), Crispin Cioe (sax), Ricky DeSarno (guitar), and Charlie Giordano (keys).

<p><img src="//d10j3mvrs1suex.cloudfront.net/u/425944/2465a1c9b98b355be6d9b74c7f7e949f4fdefbba/original/rsz-1me.jpg/!!/b%3AW10%3D.jpg" class="size_orig justify_left border_" alt="mesmall" />Terry Shanahan had a great idea one day. We were talking on the phone while I was getting ready to leave for a tour of Italy in January of 2014, to promote my latest CD. I told him about how I had been photographing interesting bathrooms for 10 years during my travels, and he suggested that I put together a book of these photos and call it "Dear John". The concept evolved from simple photographs to painted photographs, as I had seen Terry's work as an artist, and some of this work included painted photographs which I thought were just great. We thought to paint scenes into each photo...and this in turn evolved into the idea to include a short poem with each painted photo; something that had to do with love and relationships. "Dear John..." was born. <img src="//d10j3mvrs1suex.cloudfront.net/u/425944/0c37b126eb2788bd38c2187f59f15f10ad84716e/original/rsz-2014-05-04-1544.png/!!/b%3AW10%3D.png" class="size_orig justify_right border_" alt="djsmall" />We began to go through the photos, which I had started taking in 2004 while onboard the MS Veendam for a cruise. There were quite a few from the Veendam, as well as from 2 other ships, along with photos from the many hotel rooms and clubs that I had either stayed in or performed at while on tour in Italy during 2006, 2013 and 2014. We picked out what we felt were the most interesting ones, and got to work. "Dear John..." is a work in progress, and the process is simple, but tedious. Terry has chosen to use a very primitive computer program on his Mac G4, which is very fitting as many of these photos were taken using a cell phone. The goal is to make something creative with the least amount of help. You can find the official "Dear John..." blog, along with a few pages from the book, by clicking<a href="http://thedearjohnbook.blogspot.com/" data-imported="1"> here.</a> <br>~ Carolyne</p>

<p>I actually misplaced this DVD set after I came home from New York a month ago. I found it today inside a box with slides I had been looking at at the time, while looking for something interesting to post on Facebook for Throwback Thursday, LOL!
The concert from January 11. 2014 at Spazio Teatro 89 in Milano, was one of 2 shows played with a full band from this last 2014 tour of Italy. It features the Working Class Band with Daniele Tenca and Heggy Vezzano. There are 2 discs with 17 songs, and despite it being a theater, the show had a very nice intimate feel.
The set is $25 including US Priority Mail shipping, INTERNATIONAL please add $6.

<p>I have finally found a way to pull the Folk City footage from my old computer which has a broken CD/DVD ROM...so I am now able to burn both sets from July 13, 1985 onto a 2 DVD set. Hooray!
This show was shot with a video camera on a tripod...so the footage is EXACTLY as it appeared on the original tape...but is is a must have for fans. It is the only '85 footage I have of myself and David Landau playing together, which makes it even more special. It contains many songs that are still unrecorded or unreleased, like "Pretty Dancer" and "Break My Heart".
The cost for this set is $20, which includes US Priority Mail shipping, INTERNATIONAL please add $6.

<p>The Carolyne Mas "Rockpalast" concert from January of 1981, is now available as a 2 audio CD set for $20 plus $3.95 Priority Mail shipping US only, International customers add $6.00.
There is a 13 plus minute rendition of "Sitting in the Dark", as well as exceptional versions of "Midnight Confessions", "You Cannot Win if You Do Not Play", and "I'm Lucky", a Mas/Landau collaboration which was a huge favorite with audiences back then. This recording is far superior to "Mas Hysteria", as it is 2 full CDs of exceptional and rare performances, featuring the late great Bobby Chouinard on drums.

These photos were taken in July of 1980 during a show at the Fast Lane in Asbury Park, by a man named Joe Streno, who was a student at the time. He was recently invited to show photos he took at the Fast Lane by the Asbury Park Musical Heritage Foundation. Photos of myself and my band circa 1980 will be part of the photos displayed. The opening reception will be November 16th (not sure of the time yet) in Asbury Park. I'll let you know all the details as soon as he tells me.
He will also be showing his Fast Lane photos of Billy Idol, Mink DeVille, The A's, John Eddie & The Front Street Runners, Ronnie Spector, & Junior Smoots And The Disturbers.

"A great voice, even better today, a great personality, and exciting songs that touch the soul."
~ Blue Bottazzi Beat
"The rich notes in the booklet tell in great detail her encounters and love affairs with these songs, part of a "time travel" which includes several previously unpublished original compositions as well as a few that are known and revisited with grit, class and sexiness between sinuous swing, scat, blues, Latin flavors and touching confessional ballads."
~ Alfredo Marziano, rockol.it
" I LOVE LOVE this CD. And what makes it even better is the case, which is like a miniature LP with a fold out booklet. I felt like I was opening an album. Carolyne has evolved into a vocalist, interpreter of great songs - both her own and other writers'. She has a smoky, blues tone to her voice and she powers it over each syllable beautifully. This CD has "Mas" appeal."
~ Rich Wilson...a fan.

<p>This show was recorded by Paramount Lorimar, at The Attic in Greenville, NC during the late summer of 1980. It features the same players as on Modern Dreams, when Rick DeSarno had replaced David Landau on guitar. Charlie Giordano, who now plays with Springsteen, is on piano, and the legendary Bobby Chouinard is on drums. There is a brief interview with me included in the footage.
It was supposed to have become a TV show called "Ovation", but I don't think it ever aired due to the poor quality of their film. It was 140 degrees on stage, and they had blown the fuses in the club...so there was no AC. You can see how washed out we appear because of the intensely bright lighting. I remember them flying me to the south somewhere to fix Ivan's bass part at the end of one of the songs, oddly enough. I can't tell you which one it was.
Enjoy!

<p>This is a painting I have made that will be a part of the artwork for my upcoming CD, "Across the River", which is scheduled to be released October 20th...my birthday...on Route 61 Music out of Italy. I am very excited about it, and see this as the birth of a significant period of change in my life. If I think back to just a year ago, I can really appreciate how my life has been blessed with so many new opportunities. It has been quite a struggle, and at times my life has felt just as barren as the desert in my painting. Somehow the music has brought with it a river of possibilities and new life.
The painting is called "From Music Comes the River", and is available for sale <a href="/files/590648/products.html" data-imported="1"> here. </a><br>

<p>I just came across this solo version of "King of the U-Turn" on YouTube. I did a free solo acoustic mini tour in the early summer of 1993 to promote the release of "Reason Street". It was filmed and broadcast by Underground Live TV. I had no idea...

<p>I have been thinking today about the direction of my life. For so many years, I have relied on others for my successes...or failures...not having much control over the outcome. Music business is like that because it is rarely a one man...or woman...show. There are agents, managers, record labels, venues...all people and things beyond your control. If you think about it, it is a very precarious way in which to live, because there is so little certainty to be had in being almost completely dependent on others for both your present and your future.
Because of this, I have decided to open myself to new adventures; a new way of looking at myself and the ways in which I can experience life through this body that I have been given.
Over the years, I have come to see myself as more than a musician. Most of my life, in fact, has not been spent playing music at all. If I add up all of the years I actually recorded and toured, it would come to only 7 years. That is 7 years out of 57, and yet music is the only thing I have been associated with in the minds of many people. How odd!
I have opened the blog portion of this page as part of that journey into self discovery, and at this point, I am very interested in pursuing opportunities as a writer. I don't know how this will work out for me...and in some ways, I also don't want to get caught up in the same narrow field of expectations and disappointments.
Right now, I am a leaf in the wind, and I am open to letting life write me for a change. :-)</p>

I am very pleased to offer the entire show from Bremen, Germany, for download. It is uncut...exactly as it was that evening, all of the talking in between songs included. That evening's show was not one of the bigger audiences I performed to during the tour, it was a small venue, but it was a very intimate show as there were a lot of people from my past in attendance.
The sound-man was kind enough to download this show for me onto his computer, and I received it a short while ago. It is $10 for the download, and may be purchased by clicking on the PayPal link below. You will automatically be led to the download link. Works best with Firefox, but if you experience any problems, please email me at samlorac@aol.com and I will send you the link directly.
Enjoy!

"Originally issued on the Stillsane (!) label, this 1989 European release exemplifies the standard Mas virtues: direct, no-BS songwriting and solid musicianship. Recorded in Springfield, Missouri, Action Pact features Carolyne in front of the fabled Midwestern bar band known as the Morells (when they weren't known as the Skeletons). "So Hard to Be True" was also included in the set for Carolyne Mas Live! An unexpected delight is the vocal on "Sleepwalk" (yes, the old Santo and Johnny song), which Carolyne once spun for me over the phone. "Cruel Little Angel" is pure classic Nashville. And "Dizzy from the I-IV-V" — well, you must hear that for yourself." ~ Charles G. Hill, www.dustbury.com

"Recorded in Münster, Germany at the Jovel Music Hall, this live set runs over an hour and a half; once again, it's Carolyne with a five-piece band, doing what she does best. As on Hold On and Mas Hysteria, she opens with "Hold On" and "Stay True". "Sittin' in the Dark", from her first LP, has grown to an eighteen-minute extended workout for the band — and a certified crowd-pleaser. There are new songs, too, plus a trip into the James Brown catalogue( It's a Man's Man's World )." ~ Charles G. Hill, www.dustbury.com

"Back into the studio for this 1993 release, Carolyne is maybe a little quieter here and there, but no less willing to be heard, and her writing is as sharp as ever. The late-night mysteries of "Driving on the Radio" screech to a halt in the light of day in "King of the U-Turn". "Lovers from the Start" is a lovely Beatlesque ballad, which is not necessarily why John Lennon's "Cry Baby Cry" fits so well into this set. Four of these tracks appeared previously on Carolyne Mas Live! The title? Well, Carolyne says in the liner notes, "I believe in the triumph of hope over experience, faith over reason." Reason Street, therefore, first and foremost, is a road to somewhere." ~ Charles G. Hill, www.dustbury.com

<p>I have 2 new shows available as downloads for you. One, is an acoustic show from July 13, 1985, with David Landau on guitar, along with with bass and conga drums. It was recorded at the legendary Folk City in Greenwich Village, NYC, by my friend Marty Jablow who was kind enough to have given me this VHS tape in 2009. I have converted it exactly as it was taped, splitting into 2 parts as there is an early and a late show.
The other show is extremely special as well. This show was recorded by Paramount Lorimar, at The Attic in Greenville, NC during the late summer of 1980.
I have now posted these show on YouTube which you can only access via a private link. If you don't know how to download them...please use this bit of freeware to help you: http://download.cnet.com/YTD-Video-Downloader/3000-2071_4-10647340.html<br>

<p>Some news on the horizon. The Kickstarter campaign has proven to be a bust. I set my goal too high, and was therefore unable to meet it...so all pledges automatically will become null and void later this week.
Because my departure time is getting closer, I have decided instead to accept all contributions via PayPal, but still honor the same perks as the Kickstarter pledge levels promised to deliver.
I am presently trying to raise money for my plane tickets. My son will be coming with me as part of an independent study for his school. I was already able to get my passport renewed, as well as a new passport for him...and I thank those who helped make that possible.
Just $1 contribution will buy you a piece of the action. You will get personal video updates from venues, hotel rooms, restaurants, gas stations...wherever I am able to get in a quick video. This should be lots of fun.
For $25, you will not only receive links to video updates, but an autographed photo from the tour.
As suggested by a fan, a $50 contribution will entitle you to a meet and greet with me after a show in one of the many cities where I will be performing.
A $100 or greater contribution, will get you everything already mentioned, plus either a CD recording of one of the shows, or a CD that is only available in Germany....possibly both.
As much as this is a project to raise money to cover expenses both pre tour and on tour, this is also something of an experiment, and a media project for me. I think it is a great way to expand the entire experience of a tour. I have already shared so many details of my personal life with many of you on Facebook, so why not continue that same relationship experience through video while traveling to strange and new places? It's a great way for you to share the experience of what it is like to be on the road.
I am so excited at the thought of taking you with me!

It has been said that I have as many lives as I have hats. I may very well hold the world's record for career resurrections! It looks like I will be doing a 4 possibly 5 week tour of Europe in the early part of next year, January into February.
The timing of this tour is perfect. As many of you already know, I have suffered with arthritis for a number of years now, but thanks to being able to visit with a naturopathic doctor in my area, I am virtually pain free after eliminating certain allergens like gluten from my diet. It is nothing short of a miracle...perhaps some of you had been praying for me. :-)
My tour will begin on January 24, in Italy. I will be playing at least 6 shows there with an Italian bass payer named Andrea. After that, I will be doing approximately 10 dates in Germany. There may be more shows added in Italy after that, since I will have to fly back there anyway before returning to the states. I will know more as things take begin to take shape.
I should have a better idea about the where and when in a couple of weeks, so check back here for news. Love you all!</p>

<p>Dear Friends and Fans...
I have 2 new shows available on DVD for you. One, is an acoustic show from July 13, 1985, with David Landau on guitar, along with with bass and conga drums. It was recorded at the legendary Folk City in Greenwich Village, NYC.
The other show is extremely special as well. It was recorded by Paramount Lorimar, at The Attic in Greenville, NC during the late summer of 1980. It features the same players as on Modern Dreams, when Rick DeSarno had replaced David Landau on guitar. Charlie Giordano, who now plays with Springsteen, is on piano, and the legendary Bobby Chouinard is on drums. There is a brief interview with me included in the footage. Was I ever that young?

I am very pleased to offer these. They are more appealing to buy than a long download, and will play on a regular DVD player with no problem. I will be making them one at a time to order, and they will come in a plain envelope. Each show is $14.99 including shipping.

<p>I wish I had the show in its entirety...the cassette is turned over and part of one song is missing. It is from sometime around the end on 1980. I will see if I can get a better recording. Surely one is out there, as I believe this show was broadcast on Chum FM. On this night, I opened for Robert Palmer. I appeared on the morning show "Canada AM" to promote this show. I WISH I had a copy of THAT!

<p>This is an out take from the album "Hold On" which was recorded in April of 1980, 32 years ago at the time of this posting. Hard to believe. The entire album was recorded live in the studio. This vocal was done using what they called "The Bruce Booth", as it was set up for Springsteen. He was recording "The River" at the time, and we used Studio A twice when he was off. "You Cannot Win" was also done in this booth. We used Studio B for the rest of the album, where we shared the setup with The Clash. It is missing a guitar solo which was to be added later; this is a reference mix. It is the only recording of this song that there is, with exception to what is laying around in a warehouse somewhere in New Jersey.

<p>These songs were recorded in Bremen, Germany, in 1992. For a brief while, I had a small roots rock band called "The Hipshots" in Germany with my husband Teddy on drums, and a couple of my German friends who were into this kind of music. Unfortunately, this type of music was not very popular there, and I had great difficulty trying to break with the image the German audience had of me through my very popular record, "Mas Hysteria". It was a contributing factor to the various reasons why I chose to return to the states in 1993. This music, in my mind, was merely a continuation of the direction I had been going in when I first arrived in Germany in 1989, after having recorded "Action Pact" in Springfield, MO.

<p>I have cranked out many a love song in my day, but every so often there is the occasional hate song. Although there are not too many of these in my repertoire, I do enjoy singing them very much. This one was written during the earlier part of 1982, after a brief encounter with an old flame at the deli across the street from my apartment in Brooklyn. The recording is from a live show 7/2/1982, at JB Scott's, in Albany, NY.

<p>Yet another version of a song written in 1981. This is the original arrangement, and my favorite. Live to 2 track, recorded 9/89 in Springfield, MO. right before embarking on a German tour. Carolyne Mas, rhythm guitar, vocals; Richie Rebuth, lead guitar; Ed Hines, bass; Randy Watson, keys; Ron Gremp, drums. Engineered by Lou Whitney at Column One Studio...those were the days! All photos taken in Springfield, and in Bremen, Germany.

<p>This Moon Martin cover, recorded on "Modern Dreams", is from a live show on July 2, 1982, at a club called J.B. Scott's in Albany, NY. It's a bit distorted, but still priceless. It was taken from a cassette made by my late manager, Faris Bouhaha, RIP.
The first picture was taken at Coney Island, the second is from a live show in Ottowa at Barrymore's Theater, and the third picture was taken backstage at the Fast Lane in Asbury Park, with my dear late mother, God rest her beautiful soul. These photos were all taken during the summer of 1982.

<p>"Across the River" by Willie Nile, from the first set of my Kenny's Castaways gig from 9/28/78. I was 22. This was before Willie recorded it, he was a fellow Greenwich Village songwriter at the time, and a friend. He was in the audience for this. In the second set, I played "Canadian Dancer", by Randy Burns, as my piano song.

Originally issued on the Stillsane label, this 1989 European release exemplifies the standard Mas virtues: direct, no-BS songwriting and solid musicianship. And "Dizzy from the I-IV-V" — well, you must hear that for yourself.

Recorded in Münster, Germany at the Jovel Music Hall, this live set runs over an hour and a half; once again, it's Carolyne with a five-piece band, doing what she does best. As on Hold On and Mas Hysteria, she opens with "Hold On" and "Stay True". "Sittin' in the Dark", from her first LP, has grown to an eighteen-minute extended workout for the band — and a certified crowd-pleaser. There are new songs, too, plus a trip into the James Brown catalogue.
Personnel:
Carolyne Mas: Lead vocals, guitar
Steve Cochran: Lead guitar, vocals

"REASON STREET" ~ UNRELEASED in U.S.

Back into the studio for this 1993 release, Carolyne is maybe a little quieter here and there, but no less willing to be heard, and her writing is as sharp as ever. The title? Well, Carolyne says in the liner notes, "I believe in the triumph of hope over experience, faith over reason." Reason Street, therefore, first and foremost, is a road to somewhere.
Personnel:
Carolyne Mas: Lead and background vocals, harmonica, 12-string guitar
Charlton Pettus: Guitars, keyboards, bass, mandolin, pedal steel guitar, vibes, background vocals
Milton Sutton: Drums, all percussion including bottles, vibes

Clive Gray: Mandolin

<p>Greetings and welcome to the new look of CarolyneMas.com! Former Fan Club prez Brad DeMeulenaere has helped me out here, and given a fresh look to the old page; I like it very much!
We will be adding some new items to the store. You will now be able to purchase hand-written lyrics from me, as well as have me sing songs personally for you via Skype or phone. We are trying to find new and creative ways to help generate income while I take the time to work on my book, which is now 1/3 of the way towards being completed. It is very exciting for me to be doing this at last.
I will be selling DVDs of live shows, as well as unreleased recordings and demos from my own personal collection which you will be able to download. I will also from time to time, be offering memorabilia and vinyl copies of my Mercury recordings.
Look for news of the upcoming release of WildCat Recording's reissue of my first 3 Mercury LPS here on this page. I know that a lot of you have waited a long time for this! I will keep you posted as soon as I learn of the date.
I welcome all my friends and fans to join my email list if you have not already done so! :-)
Love and Gratitude,
Carolyne</p>

<p>I have decided to let my good friend Joe Phillips release my 3 Mercury LPs on his label WildCat Recordings USA. They will also be releasing a 4 song EP of previously unreleased material.
As you know, over the years I have had small labels say that they were going to do this before, and it fell through each time. However, I have learned that sometimes things happen, or don't happen, for a very good reason. This opportunity was well worth waiting for.
All of the songs will be REMASTERED for this new CD. "The EP download will be 4 very special, previously unreleased songs! The 3 Mercury albums will be presented in a double CD length package, initially as high quality MP3 downloads.", Joe said on Sunday.
The EP will contain out takes from the "Brand New World", "Reason Street", and "Action Pact" recording sessions.
Check here from time to time for updates! Add your name to my mailing list if you want to be notified of any news. :-)

<p><img src="//d10j3mvrs1suex.cloudfront.net/u/425944/5a96e0c25f47235e6739b7dcf08880cc3fba72ca/original/mama.jpg/!!/b%3AW10%3D.jpg" class="size_orig justify_center border_" />
My best memories of my mother were all about her cooking. Whenever I came home from school, the smell of food would greet me as I burst through the kitchen door. There my Mom would be, like clockwork, standing behind the pink formica counter, steam eminating from a huge electric skillet which was her weapon of choice. In it she made her famous Chicken Livia, Veal Marsala, or one of the many wonderful dishes which she was very well known for preparing among her circle of friends. And us kids? We loved it. We loved that she made hamburgers...no STEAKburgers in the fireplace, along with the best flank steak I have ever had to this day. My brother and I would toast marshmellows over the glowing coals afterward. I don't recall any other kid's parents cooking in their fireplace. I felt special.
As I returned home from the hospital today, I felt so empty. I looked at my son, and nothing really seemed to phase him at all...it made me want to be a kid again. But maybe he just sees life as what it really is, just this amazing ride filled with beaiutiful people that come and go, leaving a trail of stars behind them. I don't know.
I am going to make a lasagna this Christmas. It was one of my mother's legacys that she handed down to me...some would even say her tour de force. Of course, I will still make it her way, but like a quilt I will alter it with my own special and unique touch that will add my name to the list of those before me, and those yet to come.
Merry Christmas, Ma. I'll be seeing you.</p>

In the spirit of giving, <a href="http://www.wildcatrecording.com/" data-imported="1">WildCat Recording</a> artists have given of themselves for a very special collection of Holiday-themed songs. <b>For my fans, among these songs is my song "Snow".</b> We live in very dark times, it's not always "happy time" for many. Our neighbors are hungry, cold and in serious troubles. <b>Profits from this collection will go to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Massena, NY to fund the food bank, and other types of assistance to aid the poor in our community.</b>
This is a remarkable<a href="http://www.wildcatrecording.com/christmas/" data-imported="1"> album</a> of songs by noted musicians and songwriters from all over the country, coming together in a common purpose. We can't thank them all enough for their efforts. Right now, it's available by MP3 download for a suggested donation of $10.00 USD. You can donate ANY amount, though! And, please share the songs with your friends.
Joe Phillips, founder and owner of WildCat Records, has given me permission to put the link to donate to this cause on my page, and here it is below. <p>Carolyne Mas once graced the airwaves in 1979 with her sax-driven
anthem, "Stillsane", a song about holding on to one's sanity in the
face of conflict. Today she faces that battle for real.
After working as a professional musician for over 30 years (her first
paid gig was at the age of 13), Mas went on in 1998 to form an animal
sanctuary in Nashville, Tennessee called "Our Animal Haus". The
sanctuary was moved to Florida in 2004 after Mas' father died and she
volunteered to care for her Aunt with Alzheimer's along with her
grieving mother.
After finding a perfect location in Brooksville, the sanctuary
thrived. Its residents included the original dogs from Tennessee, all
of whom were elderly large mixed breed dogs, and cats who had AIDS and
were HIV positive. Carolyne and her husband were committed to
providing them with a safe and beautiful place for them to spend the
rest of their lives. They also began to take in several exotic birds,
some with special needs, as well as several horses, one of them blind.
"Our Animal Haus" was becoming a safe haven for the unadoptable,
unwanted, and special needs animals who otherwise would have had no
place to go.
Beginning in February of 2009, Mas and her husband began to have
several visits from Animal Control of Hernando County. They had been
prompted by a call from a recently fired and disgruntled employee.
Everything seemed fine and friendly until journalist Logan Neill of
the Hernando Times, a branch f the St. Pete Times, requested an
interview with Mas in response to an article called "Carolyne Mas: Her
Animal Haus", which had come out in the <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/holly-cara-price/carolyne-mas-her-animal-h_b_280216.html" data-imported="1">Huffington Post</a> in September.
Mas granted this interview, even providing the name and phone number
of one of her "friends" at Animal Control as a reference. After all,
just 2 weeks earlier, they had said she was a "good sanctuary".
But...something wrong happened. In direct breach of his ethics as a
journalist, Logan Neil, who had not even taken a tour of "Our Animal
Haus", used the number given to him by Carolyne to file a complaint.
Although Mr. Neill denies this, Animal Control does not.
What ensued was nothing short of a nightmare. Logan Neil began to
write a series of slanderous articles for the Hernando Times,
containing undocumented information and outright lies about "Our
Animal Haus" and its owners. Animal Control began to seize the animals
at "Our Animal Haus", first by taking Ginger, a 30-year-old mare, and
then euthanizing her. They falsely claimed she was suffering from
malnutrition and was instead 18 years old, despite her previous Vet
records stating her birth date as 8/20/1979.
On October 30, almost 200 animals were seized from "Our Animal Haus"
because of false allegations made by Animal Control, stemming from the
euthanizing of Ginger. These animals included all of the dogs, all of
the cats, perfectly healthy exotic birds, as well as healthy pure bred
horses and ponies. Animal Control would end up putting down all of the
elderly dogs and almost all of the cats, robbing them of living out
the rest of their lives in peace. They would, however, go on to profit
from the sale of the birds and the horses, and a handful of small pure-
bred dogs.
Presently there are cases all across the US where Animal Control or
the local humane society has acted outside the scope of local
ordinances and illegally confiscated animals, from valuable show dogs
and show cats, to well kept breeding birds, to thoroughbred horses.
Apparently these local officials have learned that they can achieve
three goals:
1) adopt out (sell) animals and property for money,
2) receive donations from the public for their "good" work
3) receive commendations from their superiors
Therefore, they have financial reasons for "taking animals under color
of law." However, they generally use the argument that the animals are
abused, not properly cared for, starving, or treated cruelly. They are
quick to euthanize any animals that will be too much trouble to keep
and that cannot be adopted to the public for money. These many types
of cases are being documented due to this outrageous assault on
constitutional rights of animal owners in the U.S.
Carolyne's Fourth Amendment rights were clearly violated by the
illegal search and seizure of her animals and expensive bird cages,
and Animal Control fast-tracked her case, acting often without any
official paperwork allowing them to do so, robbing Carolyne of her
Fifth Amendment right to due process; She was never given enough time
to secure an attorney.
Through supporters of her case, Carolyne was able to find an attorney
in Tampa, who has worked cases like this before and won. However, she
does not have the funds to hire him. She has paid dearly for the
emotional loss of her long time companions, and the ones whom she
sheltered from harm for so long. She will never see any of them again.
Her name and reputation has been unfairly and unmercifully slandered
by the press who gave her little time to tell her own story. You can
help her finally get the justice that she so well deserves by making a
donation at <a href="www.ouranimalhaus.org" data-imported="1">'Our Animal Haus"</a>, or by contacting her directly at <a href="mailto:samlorac@aol.com" data-imported="1">samlorac@aol.com</a>.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Sincerely,

As some of you may recall in the past, a woman named Caryn MacFayden was caught impersonating me both on the Web, and in person at various places throughout the country over the past few years. I confronted her here, and she replied with a letter which I posted, stating that she would never do it again - well, she lied.
I received a post in my guestbook today from a woman named Dorothy, who apparently is booked on a cruise with Ms. MacFayden. It is a Rick Springfield cruise in November, and when you book it as a single person you are allowed to request a cabin mate to cut down on expenses.
On this cruise is the opportunity to rub elbows with music people, some from MTV, maybe even Mr. Springfield himself at a special cocktail party on this cruise, and that worries me a lot. She may try to meet people by using my name, which is something I wouldn't even do. From what someone who met her a while back at some kind of music convention, she seems a bit flaky. She spins stories about her husband having jammed with the stones in the early seventies, which would have been when I was in high school. The time line is off completely, and thank God that some people are driven to check this Web site to see if she is indeed...me.
She has even shown people pictures of her 'tour of Italy', robbing many details of my life from this very page. Well, she cannot steal my face, so look at my photo here and remember my face, because if you ever meet either one of us, you will know who the real Carolyne Mas is.
HERE IS A PHOTO OF CARYN MACFAYDEN. IF YOU MEET HER YOU WILL NOW KNOW SHE IS NOT ME...AND BE WARNED. SHE IS ILL AND NEEDS HELP.</p>

Yes, it is true...finally. This is an occasion, to say the least, one I have waited for many years to happen.
While going through my guest-book entries in order to approve or delete them...I get SO much Spam...I came across a letter from a gentleman named John Edwards who owns Renaissance Records. They are responsible for digging up a lot of old dinosaurs like me, and reissuing their old vinyl on CD.
I posted this in my Facebook page on Friday after I talked to him. I saw that someone posted it on a Steve Hoffman forum and mentioned it in the guest-book already, so I thought I would just confirm it here as well. I also wrote a long post on the SH forum, about "Our Animal Haus".
I hope that this will be good for my fans, and work out well for my animals, too. Any little bit helps, as you know.</p>

I met him in 1982, when he was doing sound for me on a Canadian tour. We fell in love very quickly, and lived together during the bulk of our relationship, which lasted 5 years....a significant amount of time for me at that point in my life, and even now. It is for him that I wrote "Cruel Little Angel".
Larry was one of the few people that I remained close with over the years, and he was one of the 2 or 3 people in my life that I would ask for advice, which says a lot because most of the time I think I know everything...
I consider myself lucky to have known him so well, well enough to see his gentile and loving spirit. The kind of connection we shared does not happen often in life, and I will continue to cherish the book of memories we made together, turning each page of rare and special moments over and over again for the rest of my own life.
Larry was a warm, wonderful, and loving Godfather to my son, who called him "Uncle YaYa", because he could not say his name when he was little, and this somehow stuck over the years. He was great with kids, and knew how to relate to them in a magical way. My husband Teddy told me that he was the only one of my old boyfriends that he actually liked, and that you could not help but like him. This says a lot about Larry's character, I think; My husband never seems to like anybody I know.
Now that he has been summoned up to the ultimate gig in the sky, I am sure he is enjoying all of the great musicians that are playing, and I'd like to think of him there, tuning Jimi's guitar, fixing Marley's mic cable, or just hanging with Terry, B. C., and Big Danny, laughing at the silly things we do down here.
Larry...you will live on in the hearts and minds of the many people who love you. We will be seeing you...</p>

It has been years since I have set up a Web site, and have gotten the domain "ouranimalhaus.org", from GoDaddy, as well as the software from them that is supposed to be easy to use to build the site, but I have suddenly become Web stupid, and am having trouble setting it up.
Anyway, here is the logo, designed by Brad Hughes, and angel, and it's great, isn't it? He has also designed some pictures for the tees we will be selling as well as some graphics which will appear on the page I am fumbling through creating.
Check the address now and then, but as I have something really up and running, I will be linking to it from here.</p>

I have found an excellent artist to do pin-up girl drawings with some of our real animals for the new Web site for OUR ANIMAL HAUS that I am looking to morph with this one.
He is a real angel, and is working as a donation to our cause. We are also working on some provocative tees as well as a calendar of the drawings and animals that will appear on the Web site.
He is an amazing artist, and as soon as some of the images are finalized, you will be able to see them here.</p>

<p>Our Animal Haus, Inc., is in dire financial straits. We are a sanctuary for special needs and unadoptable horses, dogs, cats , and birds. You can see some of the photos of our animals on MySpace.
For 6 years I had a very well paying job as Guardian and caregiver for my Aunt who had Alzheimer's, but sadly she passed in April of last year, an event which was not only emotionally devastating, but financially so. We had built the sanctuary up through the good times.
Every penny I earned during that time, I spent on the animals, and after I was no longer working, I started to sell off all of the guitars I had accumulated when I was an active professional musician, which on Ebay, means for half their value.
I am entering a particularly dark period as I have just sold the last guitar. I have 3 workers to pay, as I cannot get volunteers to help me for obvious reasons. I don't know what to do. My husband and I just cannot do all of the work ourselves, and the feed bills are high.
Donations can be made here via PayPal. I am embarrassed to ask, but please help if you can.
Thank you, Carolyne</p>

<p>A big thank you goes out to all of you who have donated to our shelter during our great time of need. Your donations are greatly appreciated by every one of the gentle souls who so peacefully roam here, and will make their lives a little bit easier.
I have decided to repay all of you by putting up mp3s for all of my CDs and LPs here on this Web site for you to download for free. This is a rather daunting task, and it will take a bit of time, but it is something I really want to do for all of you to show my gratitude for your generosity.
Love,
Carolyne

It is 3 AM on Sunday morning, and my friend Don has just finished vacuuming the water from our attic. Our hot water heater broke upstairs, sending water pouring into all four bedrooms, and the hallway that leads to them. We will have to replace the laminate floors throughout that part of the house, and possibly the ceilings, and a couple of the walls.
The BAD news is that I just sold both of my gold watches on Ebay to be able to pay for the building of a new outdoor kennel for the 25 cats I just rescued from a kill (via gassing) shelter in Georgia. Everything was going to proceed just fine and dandy until tonight. There is no telling how much the insurance company will pay me towards the extensive repairs I will have to make because of this disaster, but I do know that they have a tendency to make you wait weeks before you even see a penny. I need to be able to not only build the kennels now, but also pay for the repairs, and both need to happen as soon as possible so we can all have a place to sleep.
I am therefor putting up a PayPal button on my Web site and asking that if any of you out there can donate anything to help, I would greatly appreciate it. I have donated money to many causes in the past, so I am hoping that some good karma will be coming my way because of this. My PayPal ID to where you can send money is the same as my email address, which is samlorac@aol.com. For those of you who do not use PayPal, donations can be mailed to Carolyne Mas, 24419 Lanark Road, Brooksville, FL 34601. Checks or Money Orders will have to be made out to me personally as I have yet to open a business account under the name of "Our Animal Haus, Inc".
I do thank all of you. To the left, are some of the cats rescued from Barrow County, GA, most of whom are still kittens.</p>

<br>I am finally able to write this without becoming an emotional wreck...I took care of my Aunt for the last 6 years of her life, and I am honored to have done so.
What can I say about a woman who had so much impact on my life? She was my soul mother, my friend, and one of the biggest supporters of my womanhood and my music, especially my piano playing and composing. She was fearless and jumped into everything head first, and I see now how she was the fire behind my father's eyes, pushing him forward to accomplish great things, guiding him into the wonderful world of imagination, laughter, and music. Two years older than my dad, they were as tight as a brother and sister could be. I am sure that if there is a heaven, she is playing the piano to my father's lush baritone, happy to be reunited with her best friend.
Ana held a Master's Degree in Econimics from Columbia University, and served as Economic Attache' to the United States in Mexico, a job which was created especially for her by the American Embassy in Mexico City. She traveled all over the world often by herself, which was relatively unheard of in her day, quite independent of her loving husband of 60 years, Ed. She even managed to care for her father until his death in the early 1980's. I have photos of her with Nixon, Ted Kennedy, and other powerful men who were her all her colleagues. Had she been born decades later, one can only imagine that she may have taken a more influential role in politics, such as Secretary of State or even President. She had all the grace, beauty, and sophistication of a Jackie Kennedy, and as if that was not enough, she was also an accomplished pianist, with an uncanny sense of rhythm.
Ana did Yoga with me on the floor of our den in Long Island around 1965, when no one had ever heard of it. She had a bell-like laugh, and she got a kick out of the fact that I was able to do the lotus position with little effort, like a "piece of rubber," she said. Around this time, I also remember her trying to bake a cheesecake, complete with the graham cracker crust. Her and my father both loved a good New York Style cheesecake, but I remember this as being an overwhelming task, complete with the hysteria of the almost forgotten grated lemon rind, and the ensuing mess that looked more like a science experiment gone wrong. I don't remember how the cheesecake turned out, but it became something of a joke-infused legend for a while, as my Aunt was not the domestic kind, and was looked upon by my parents as being somewhat spoiled because she was lucky enough to have a full time French cook at her home in Mexico.
So many memories...I could write a book about my Aunt...perhaps I should. Maybe the story of this remarkable woman is one that needs to be told...</p>
Carolyne Mastag:carolynemas.com,2005:Post/60804692008-01-30T17:00:00-07:002019-12-18T14:28:09-07:00OUR ANIMAL SANCTUARY
<p>I have made the decision to quit playing music, I never play out anymore anyway, and devote my life to animal rescue, and to my family. We are at this moment seeking non-profit status for our ever-growing sanctuary...at last. Additionally, some of you may already know that I have been caring for my Aunt for some time now. Well, I am also caring for my Mom these days, and frankly I have no desire to be away from either of them at all anymore. This is where I am needed, and I feel that my life has real purpose when I can be of service to others who cannot help themselves.
Music has brought me more sorrow than good over the years, and the people that I associated with truly depleted all of the joy that I once had for my music. The world that I live in now is filled with love which is unconditional...something quite alien to the business of music.
I want to thank you for your support and loyalty over the years. It has meant a lot to me, and it was the last remaining reason why I still played at all, for a long time. To those of you who play guitar...I will be selling off my collection of guitars, which is quite extensive, on Ebay, or you may contact me via email if you are interested in finding out just what is for sale.
Love Always,
Carolyne

<b>Giving to Those in Need</b>
May I become at all times, both now and forever
A protector for those without protection
A guide for those who have lost their way
A ship for those with oceans to cross
A bridge for those with rivers to cross
A sanctuary for those in danger
A lamp for those without light
A place of refuge for those who lack shelter
And a servant to all in need.

<p>With David Landau (guitar), Crispin Cioe (sax), Robbie Kondor (keys), Hugh McDonald (bass), Mike Finkelstein (drums).
This was recorded sometime during the early summer of 1979. They made me pin the hat to my head. After that, I refused to let the record company or my manager tell me what to wear. I had enjoyed wearing hats until that day, because I hated being told when and how to wear them. Many of the odd ways that I used to dress eventually showed up as fashion years later. It seems as if I was too early for a lot of things. I was sure given grief for the 'scruffy" way that I dressed, and my poor Dad went to his grave firmly believing that this was the main reason why I never had very much success. He never got to see how people dress now...

<p>The Markthalle Theater, Hamburg, Germany, January 21, 1981. Charlie Giordano on piano this time, and Ricky DeSarno on guitar. Crispin, Ivan, and Bobby were still with me at this point.
This song is called "Due Relief," and it was never recorded because everyone thought it was too nasty. I always loved it!

This next song is our cover of The Grass Root's song, "Midnight Confessions." I made up most of the words because I could not get them off the LP. I remember my manager telling me that the publishers didn't care if I wanted to record it with the wrong words, it was okay. Unfortunately, Mercury Records had zero interest in me recording this song at all, despite the fact that it was a real show-stopper.

This is a really great Mark Johnson song called "Bad Love." What fun!!!<embed src="https://www.youtube.com/v/_RBpI8WdqnA" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed>
Still my favorite of all of the songs I have ever written, "Baby Please." I was having dinner with my manager Faris in the winter of 1978. I excused myself from the table because I told him that I had to go home and write a song. I came back while he was still eating, with my guitar, and played him this song. It was snowing outside as I sang.

<p>The woman who is impersonating me is Caryn MacFadyen. She has done it before on message boards, and I'm sure she has done it in person over the years. I first read her fraudulent posts in 2001. They were written in 1999. Here is an example of just one, http://www.spring.net/yapp-bin/public/read/music/54 although there are others.
The woman from the hair salon who wrote in the Guestbook here saying that she had met me, actually met Caryn MacFadyen, and from reading all of Caryn's posts, which I sent her, she is sure. Caryn claims to be me, but she also claims to have a Celtic background.
This happened in the Atlanta area, and I'm not sure what I can do about it legally. As I said to the woman fro the salon, I believe that your greatest asset is your reputation. I hate the fact that this Caryn may be damaging mine in any way.
If you encounter this woman either online or in person, please be sure to email me, or post something in the Guestbook. For sure me having entered this here will ruin her chances of being able to use this Web site as her calling card!</p>

My Guestbook had an interesting post today from a woman claiming to have done my hair last Sunday at her salon named "Ultra." She also said that she hoped my trip to Las Vegas went well.
While deleting this post, I saw her email address, and thought to write her and find out what kind of a joke this was, since I am here in Florida, and have not had my hair done, or been to Vegas. (I would rather die than go to Vegas.) She seemed angry that I would accuse her of making a fake post like some jokers do just to appear on search engines. As some of you know who post here, this is a constant problem, and it causes me to edit the Guestbook sometimes several times a day. She then went on to say that this "Carolyne Mas" had shown her ID, and she looked like my picture on the Web site (she had given her the Web site address!) except that now she was blond. This woman then questioned if I might be another Carolyne Mas ( maybe I was mistaken?), that she had heard there was another younger one in France. I corrected her, saying that there was a Jeanne Mas in France, but that she had been around for a while now.
Very weird, thriller movie kind of stuff!!! It does make me very uncomfortable, though, with all the fraud going on these days. In an effort to bust my impostor, and to convince this woman that I am who I am, HERE IS MY PHOTO!!! This was taken at my home last year with my beautiful son who also graces the cover of "Brand New World." I will email her the same picture. When it then matches the one that I have posted on this Web site, maybe she will believe me, and help me find the psycho is who is impersonating me!
If anyone else knows this person who is impersonating me, please email me at samlorac@aol.com. It will be our own little "Unsolved Mysteries!"</p>
Carolyne Mastag:carolynemas.com,2005:Post/60804632007-01-01T17:00:00-07:002022-01-24T02:29:58-07:00HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY!!!
<p>I am glad that last year is over. It was a very hectic year for me, filled with extreme ups and downs. Many thanx to those who were so supportive of me when I was going through those zoning problems. All of the animals are so happy now that it's hard to imagine that they were ever in any peril.
My Aunt continues to survive the ravages of Alzheimer's with humor and courage. She is now 93. My son Gabriel is almost 5 now, and to see them "play" together is really something else. That we were all able to bring in the New Year together, my Mom who is now 81 included, was really a blessing and a fitting end to the mostly chaotic year which threatened to pull us apart.
Life is beautiful, even while there are those lurking around corners who would have it otherwise, and we somehow still manage to tear away the old page effortlessly and marvel at the new one with hopeful eyes. What strange and wonderful creatures we are, indeed!
I hope you are a little bit closer to where you want to be this year, and I hope that you find the opportunity to be with the people whom you love. I wish you the happiest of New Years, dear people, and the chance that it will be one filled with magic!</p>

<p><img src="//d10j3mvrs1suex.cloudfront.net/u/425944/17f190431905840f594af186abca4d8c855f5202/original/faris2.jpg/!!/b%3AW10%3D.jpg" class="size_orig justify_left border_" />
Faris Bouhafa was my manager during the most significant part of my career, as well as one of my best friends. I grew to really love him over the decades, as the number of people I called my true friends dwindled down to the count of a couple of fingers on one hand.
He was a fiercely intelligent, impetuous man, as well as a great lover of music and the beautiful things in life that many people don't take the time to appreciate. He was a fine cook and one my favorite people to share an evening's feast with. He was deeply passionate and concerned about the world we live in. If you needed 1,000 people in a room for an event by tomorrow, Faris was the man who could do that.
He was loved by many, and had just celebrated his 60th birthday with some of his closest friends by his side. I am very lucky to have been one of them.
Never will there be another soul in my life who will love my music more. He made me feel very important as an artist even when others had long forgotten and given up on me. He spoiled me for any other manager, and the ones that I had after him just never got me or what I was trying to do.
Please visit <a href="http://www.bouhafa.com" data-imported="1">bouhafa.com</a>, a tribute to this remarkable man, and read about his many accomplishments. It is a Web site originally set up by one of his best friends for his birthday, which he had been looking forward to working on himself.
Rest in peace, dear Faris, and I will be sure and turn up the volume for you the next time I play.</p>

<p>I have just returned from a tour of Italy, and I must say that I had a great time. The shows were great, and the people were so affectionate and lovely to be around. What a beautiful country!!!
The Italians are very emotional people, and as I am an emotional person, too, it was a perfect match. I was able to play many of the ballads that I hold dear to my heart, and I feel that I was truly able to express myself as an artist and as a person.
I will be posting many photos of my trip, as well as mp3s of live music, and the many stories of my shows with two great artists, Graziano Romani and Dirk Hamilton, just as soon as I overcome my jet lag and unpack.
For those awaiting CDs, I will be getting that together soon, and I am sorry about the delay. Thank you for your patience!

<p>We got the property, but were waiting for one of our current houses to sell so we could have money to build kennels for the dogs, nearly 20K worth. This was not good enough for the court today. They wanted to take all of my animals on Monday. I was barely able to get a word in edgewise in my defense.
I was humiliated by the court once again, even though I have made what I think are great strides. They ended up giving me 30 days to move the animals, or Animal Control will take them all.
If anyone out there knows of any way to help me, please do. We are more than desperate, and anxious to put this behind us once and for all.
This is Michi. He is from Argentina. He thinks that he finally found a home. Please help us relocate these beautiful and innocent animals safely.

<p><img src="//d10j3mvrs1suex.cloudfront.net/u/425944/9fe975801ee7cec0955d2656e80e76efe0e57c88/original/haus.jpg/!!/b%3AW10%3D.jpg" class="size_orig justify_right border_" />Thanks to some great Realtors, some creative financing, and a very helpful seller, we have found a new location in Brooksville, FL, about 45 minutes NE of where we are now. This is in Hernando County, where apparently everyone who loves animals goes to live in peace.
My legal situation is still in the toilet, and I do not know if I will ever receive any kind of justice, but at least we will all be able to sleep at night once again.
Thank you to all who care. Some of you have even offered monetary help, and I am pleased to announce that I am now in the position to accept all offers, however big or small, anything will be of great help. We need to build new kennels because we will have to move the dogs into ones that are already built. We also will need to do some minor construction on a cattery that is already in place, as well as create a fenced in area for the ponies. We spent a lot of money a year ago building these very things here, but we will need for them to be in place at the new house before we can move anyone in, including people. We will have to leave what we built behind, or sell it after the fact. It will be far easier to sell both properties without the animals present. Some people have trouble having vision, especially if they are not animal lovers.
Any donations can be sent via PayPal to ouranimalhaus@aol.com, or mailed to us directly. Please call 727-863-7826 if you wish to contribute, and we can tell you the particulars.
This is Jax, who sadly passed away last summer. He is sorely missed.

<p><img src="//d10j3mvrs1suex.cloudfront.net/u/425944/efd3a1dcde9771afa534c297b6345639366dae8c/original/meatloaf.jpg/!!/b%3AW10%3D.jpg" class="size_orig justify_right border_" />Last year a Realtor in Florida sold us this lovely 5 acre property which had in the past been a boarding and training facility for Whippets. After moving in and believing that we were realizing our dream to help those who cannot help themselves, we sadly found out that the property was not zoned for a kennel. We have a very sick neighbor who has gone around soliciting support against us, and he was eventually able to find people to join him in his cause against us--people who are one-quater of a mile away. They are the only persons in the area who do not have animals.
On my birthday this year, I had to go to court in response to the zoning violation, and was given until January 1st to comply. My lawyer told me today that he has been talking to the zoning commission, and any request for rezoning will most certainly be turned down. I am suing the Realtor and all other participating parties who lied to us, but if I cannot comply with the strict zoning standards by January 1st, I could go to jail.
I need help from any Animal Welfare groups, powerful persons, or anyone else whom you can think of. We in tears here, because we love all of our animals, and would die before any harm came to any of them. The sorrow is unbearable, and we are beginning to believe that nice guys really do finish last.
Please call me at (727) 863-7826 if you can help in any way. The picture here is of a Shih Tzu named Meatloaf. We have no idea how old he is, but he is very old. He was found wandering the streets in Nashville close to a busy 4-lane road. He has had to have all but one of his teeth pulled, and had to have his jaw wired twice because of bone loss. This is just one example of what we do, and why we acquired this lovely property with so much space to do so.
We have seen many miracles happen in the lives of our dogs and cats, and we'd hate to see any of it undone by the petty behavior of a few bad souls.</p>

<p><img src="//d10j3mvrs1suex.cloudfront.net/u/425944/7b7a38f2626201a1d60b277095a1262b1aaa82dd/original/carlos.jpg/!!/b%3AW10%3D.jpg" class="size_orig justify_right border_" /><img src="//d10j3mvrs1suex.cloudfront.net/u/425944/8805205d71061445e108c89a3b5925e417aaed11/original/buster.jpg/!!/b%3AW10%3D.jpg" class="size_orig justify_inline border_" />
This is Carlos (left) and Buster (right).
These days I am devoting myself primarily to the care of my family, and my growing extended family. I have slowly begun to build a non-profit animal rescue called "ANIMAL HAUS." I have always been concerned about the plight and the welfare of our fellow creatures who share this lovely planet, and this has become much more of a serious endevour over the years for both myself, and for my husband, Teddy.
When we lived in Nashville, TN, we came across so many stray animals--especially dogs and cats--who had been abandoned by their owners, or were simply left to fend for themselves on the streets even though they had owners. This was, to us, completely unacceptable. We also discovered that there were so few "no kill" shelters, the state of TN is very underfunded, and that they were turning away dozens of animals on a daily basis. Many shelters were forced to close because there was simply no money to be had. We could not live with this.
Eventually we built multiple kennels in our small backyardard for the dogs, and we used our basement, as well as several other rooms upstairs, for the smaller dogs and cats. We both did the best we could with what we had, both of us working full time jobs for 7.50 an hour, and we eventually established good relationships with our neighbors, and with the local authorities.
When my Dad died in 2002, I moved to Florida to look after my Mom, as well as my Aunt who has Alzheimer's. Crammed into a station wagon with our son Gabriel, then 9 months old, 3 cats, 4 birds, and one sugar glider, I made the drive through torrential rains on Christmas Eve. My husband stayed behind to take care of everyone else. After nearly 2 years of enduring this forced separation, I was finally able to get the much needed help from my Mom and my Aunt (not an easy task, lots of tearful begging!), to purchase a property appropriate for housing so many animals, as well as a good place to manage the care of my Aunt (this is how I make my income, as Guardian), who was now confined to her bed. Finally, with the prospect of better days ahead, my husband was able to move down to Florida, along with all of the animals (via an animal transport company), and we were all reunited at the end of 2004.
In December of 2004 we acquired a group liscence for our dogs, and when I was asked the name of our kennel by Animal Control, I said the first thing that popped up into my head--"ANIMAL HAUS," as my husband's family was visiting from Germany and we were already in a kind of "German" mode.
We are now able to provide a loving sanctuary for over 150 animals--not just for the the cats and dogs, but for rabbits, ferrets, fish, sugar gliders, 2 Shetland ponies, and a variety of birds who have either been adopted from individuals, or rescued from pet stores. Because I work at home, my husband is able to stay home as well, and this works out perfectly for our human family, and for our extended animal family, who are so very close to being human.</p>

He has completely changed my life, and I wonder whether or not he will one day become a working musician.
He will certainly not encounter many of the difficulties that I have experienced, because he will be a man in a man's domain.
Gabrielle is very animated, and has taken an avid interest in several different musical instruments. He is already quite the song and dance man, and ever the actor.</p>

<p><img src="//d10j3mvrs1suex.cloudfront.net/u/425944/a3e03f56186b42fb20d2c32b2021bba28e2a41a1/original/brandnew4.jpg/!!/b%3AW10%3D.jpg" class="size_orig justify_right border_" />
'BRAND NEW WORLD," the last recorded collaboration between myself and producer Steve Burgh (recorded 11/98 through 3/99), has been released, after much ado, on my own label, Savage Juliet Records.
Steve also produced my first two albums in 1979 and 1980. When he died of a sudden and massive heart attack in February of this year, I was devastated. At his funeral many people told me, including his mother whom I had never met before, that the work we did together meant a lot to him. It had been so many years since our first projects, and he never really told me to my face, so I was deeply touched by this. It then seemed such a crime for this CD to go unheard, for people not to be reminded of how good he was--how good we were together. I decided then to release "Brand New World," just the way he first sent it to me after it was mixed, as a tribute to my musical mentor and dear, dear friend.
Inside the CD is my dedication to Steve under an image of us onstage at The Bottom Line in New York City when we were recording the album. The CD cover picture is of my son, Gabriel. I wish Steve had had the chance to meet him.
"BRAND NEW WORLD" is finally now available online. Just click on "BUY" above for more info, as well as an interesting tidbit about one of the songs on the CD.
Incidentally, all you Media Moguls and Industry Types out there--I am available for press and radio interviews, and I am not totally turned off to the idea of worldwide distribution for this CD--especially in Europe, Japan, and Canada.</p>
